The Department of Emergency Medicine at John Peter Smith Health Network (JPS) in Fort Worth, Texas, is seeking a full-time Core Faculty Physician to join our expanding team. The EM Residency program at JPS was established in 2011 as a fully accredited three-year program with 15 residents per class. JPS was the first Level 1 Trauma Center for Tarrant County and is a comprehensive level 1 stroke center. Seeing over 130,000 patient visits annually, the county hospital population provides incredible learning opportunities in volume and pathology. In addition, the department supports ultrasound, administration, and street medicine fellowships. Awarded by Gallup as a Gallup Exceptional Workplace in 2024.
Emergency Department:
- 72-bed, state-of-the-art ED occupying 38,000 square feet
- Level 1 trauma center
- 130,000 annual patient visits
- Approximately 23% of patients evaluated in the ED are admitted to the hospital
- Separate on-site Urgent Care provides care for another 70,000 low acuity patients per year
- Zero ambulance diversion hours since 2008
- Resuscitation rooms equipped with digital radiography and articulating arm mounted ultrasound
- The ED is fully telemetry equipped
- Two high speed CT scanners in the ED
- Point-of-care testing for the most time sensitive of biomarkers in our ED Stat Lab
- EM Residency Program in-house
- Academic Staff EM Physician Qualifications: EM residency trained, EM Board Certified/Eligible. Experience in an Academic setting a plus.
- Primary Duties: Clinical teaching at the bedside, participation in weekly resident conferences and participation in resident evaluations
Coverage:
Physician Coverage:
- 75-106 hours of coverage daily
- 8 to 12-hour shifts w/ overlap
APP Coverage:
- Fast Track rotations
- 20-30 hours of coverage daily
- 10-12-hour shifts w/ overlap
Required Qualifications
- Ideal candidates will have an established track record in education, teaching, research, recent scholarly activity, and outstanding clinical service.
- Candidate must be board certified in emergency medicine (ABEM/ABOEM) and completion of an accredited residency program in emergency medicine.
- 3 years prior core faculty experience, prior residency leadership, or completion of an educational fellowship or advanced degree related to education preferred.
- Demonstrated interest and aptitude for residency education in emergency medicine.
