IES seeks an experienced Medical Director for OakBend Medical Center (OBMC) located in a suburb just southwest of Houston. OBMC is the only independently owned health system in Texas and is comprised of three hospital ERs. (2 in Richmond and 1 in Wharton, TX). The three ERs are nearly fully staffed with an established core group of proven ER physicians. This position features unique aspects of collaboration and support which will include an Associate Medical Director and the Executive VP of IES Houston, who has provided clinical leadership with IES since 2016. There will be an interim OBMC ED Medical Director who will assist with the transition. This position includes a monthly stipend and 30 hours/month for administrative work.

Medical Director Role

  • Provide on-site management of the clinical and administrative aspects for the emergency department.
  • Manage the quality improvement plan including attending regular meetings and reviewing medical records
  • Supervise staff, provide feedback, and assure provision of high-quality care
  • Review the provider schedule and ensure adequate staffing
  • Actively participate in the recruitment and retention of qualified physicians
  • Serve as liaison between hospital administration and clinical staff and provide regular feedback to IES leadership

OBMC Jackson St. ED- Richmond, TX

· 16,500 Patients per year

· 45 patients per day (2 Pts./hour)

· 16-bed ED; Lev. 3

· APP Coverage 56 hours/week Noon to 8PM

· 24-hour physician coverage; 12-hr. shifts 7-7

OBMC Williams Way ED-Richmond, TX

· 11,300 Patients per year

· 31 Patients per day (1.8 Pts./hour)

· 8-bed ED; Lev 4

· 24-hour physician coverage; 12-hr. shifts 7-7 

OBMC ED -Wharton, TX

· 9,500 Patients per year

· 26 Patients/ day (1.1 /hr)

· 6-bed ED; Lev 4

· Physician shifts 12 or 24 hours

Hosptial support:

  • Full labs on site, Xray, CT MRI, Fluro, US POCUS
  • EMR Paragon
  • Dictagion -Dragon


  • Experience ED Medical Director experience
  • BC/BE Emergency Medicine trained physician
  • BC/BE Family Medicine or Internal Medicine physician with recent comparable setting ER experience
  • Texas medical license (or ability to obtain)
  • DEA, ACLS, ATLS, PALS
