Academic Emergency Medicine Partners (AEMP), an independent academic clinical practice group affiliated with The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences, is seeking emergency medicine physician candidates for the Global Emergency Medicine and Public Health Fellowship for the 2027-2029 academic year.
Fellowship Goals:
The goals of the fellowship-training program are to provide each fellow with:
- Global EM systems development and public health field projects.
- Experience and contribution to ongoing capacity building projects in emergency care.
- A working knowledge of public health issues by customized course work and learning, applicable to fellow goals and objectives. This may include extended courses such as the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, the Gorgas Course in Tropical Medicine, and other course work appropriate for specified learning goals.
- Training in EMS education and system design and disaster preparedness as it pertains to global emergency medicine development.
- Skills to conduct clinical research, in resource variable environments.
- Skills to conceptually develop programs, identify potential funding sources and submit grants and proposals.
- Administrative skills to develop and organize global educational programs.
- A working knowledge of governmental and non-governmental international organizations and infrastructure.
- Maintenance and refinement of clinical skills within his/her residency trained specialty at one of our affiliated hospitals.
- A familiarity with humanitarian organizations and their management, and an effective understanding of how to deliver emergency health care in humanitarian crises and international disasters.
Fellowship Overview:
The Global Emergency Medicine & Public Health Fellowship is a program organized through the Department of Emergency Medicine at The George Washington University, in collaboration with the Milken Institute School of Public Health and the Ronald Reagan Institute of Emergency Medicine.
The purpose of the Fellowship Program is to promote experiences, educational initiatives and research pertinent to the development of global emergency medicine and health. The program strives to promote the development and evaluation of emergency care systems throughout the world, by way of field experience, research, education and mentoring. As the field of global emergency medicine grows in both breadth and depth, as it ranges from disaster medicine to humanitarian aid to systems development, we aim to educate and train the future leaders in a growing field. The program provides opportunity for collaboration with a broad spectrum of organizations to achieve these goals.
We aspire to enable U.S. physicians to develop leadership skills, knowledge, and experience in order to significantly impact the international community and facilitate future career opportunities.
